The Flow – what is it?

The Flow. Maybe some of you have heard of it, maybe some of you are lucky enough to know of it, and maybe some don't believe it exists at all. I hope something in this article today helps you to achieve the wonder of finding that flow and riding that current as far as it will carry you, or as long as your mind holds to it.

The hardest part is allowing your mind to let go of the rest and drift into your story, your writing, your words, and become the story, live it, breathe it.

To shut off the rest is most difficult, as many of you know from just regular everyday activities.

Trying to focus your mind on a simple task, while the background of your life rages on, unstoppable and constant, I get it, I'm there myself, stay at home mom, 2 kids, granted one is in school and the other is just a toddler, but so much goes on in a day, in the house, as a care taker, it is hard to separate yourself from all of that just to get some writing done. That's the kicker isn’t it.

If by chance you find that time, and the ability to give yourself some space and freedom, you can find a path towards that flow, and the more often you use it, the easier the path will be to find and follow.

Finding a typing space should be easiest, any place I set my laptop usually works. I have an “office” or a desk in our bedroom, but I usually type right here, on the kitchen table, where in can be near the kids, running, chasing, and TV singing away. Sounds like a great place to focus, eh?

Well, for many years I preferred a quiet place and had one too, just me and my husband, a whole room for an office, his computer, my computer, space, time, quiet. But that was ten years ago, now I have a house full of laughter, shouting, and sticky fingerprints. In the long run, it has only helped me better my abilities to focus and to come back again and again and find that flow.

As I had stated in my first article, it is all about finding that path, the one of constant and correct words, and to steal away within that current of thought and image, building on the story which you see so clearly. Remember that backspace, if needed, that single key will help guide you along that path of effortless writing, flowing through you and onto a page for all to enjoy.

This is how I have achieved 10,000 words in a weekend. This is how I wrote my short stories. This is how I write my blog.  Find your flow, enjoy it, thrive in it, and Ride the current until your back aches from leaning over your computer. Once you find it, I promise you will be able to find it again, believe me, it's too enjoyable not to.

Marie Bensworth has been married now for ten long years, living in the Wyoming plains' beautiful empty spaces with her husband, Lewis. Childless and lonely, it seems her life is faced with replaying the same hot, long days again and again. That is until an outcast stranger moves to town. In the weeks to follow, thoughts and feelings arise within her, she never knew she had, pushing and guiding her to this new and mysterious man. When their worlds abruptly collide, their attraction, at first ignored, becomes something much more powerful, stirring deeply within each of them. Now, as the golden band on her left hand sets her life, she must decide if this man is worth the cost of her reputation and marriage. But when Lewis becomes suspicious, Marie will be faced with the choice to stand firm or fall into the strong arms of a man she was destined to love.
