Writer's Block? Maybe not?

We've all being there, sitting before the computer, notebook, blank page, thinking, twisting, churning, unable to find the next word, or possibly even the first word. I've been there, more than once, in my novels, short stories, and even when writing a letter, sometimes the words aren't always at the tips on my fingers.

Now, before going further, please note this will not be about motivation, dedication or determination, they will be in another articles. Nope, this is my simple rule for writer's block. Ready....

'Backspace'

Drastic? Maybe, but let me break it down for you. The backspace is my greatest ally when it comes to writer's block, so much so, I'm happy to say I ultimately no longer suffer from boughs of 'sitting without typing/stressing/scrolling on my phone' typing hiatus.

I simply delete the last sentence I've written, often finding my writing path has altered only slightly from course, and once I have backtracked, (again just one sentence, or even less) I find my way back onto the writing path and into the most joyous of flow. And that's where we want to be.

Once again, my fingertips bleed the words and I find I am hardly able to keep up with my thoughts. I have been writing seriously for well over a decade now, and once I started using this trick it has never failed me. It has led me to creating worlds, lives, and loves I am truly proud of, and those of you who seek as I always will, nothing is more rewarding than seeing your first novel in print and held in your hands.

So, I do hope these few minutes have been well spent, and that this piece of advice I offer helps you succeed in all your writing endeavours.

Much appreciated, fellow writers and dreamers!

My first novel, “Bloom of the Desert Rose” is available now

Marie Bensworth has been married now for ten long years, living in the Wyoming plains' beautiful empty spaces with her husband, Lewis. Childless and lonely, it seems her life is faced with replaying the same hot, long days again and again. That is until an outcast stranger moves to town. In the weeks to follow, thoughts and feelings arise within her, she never knew she had, pushing and guiding her to this new and mysterious man. When their worlds abruptly collide, their attraction, at first ignored, becomes something much more powerful, stirring deeply within each of them. Now, as the golden band on her left hand sets her life, she must decide if this man is worth the cost of her reputation and marriage. But when Lewis becomes suspicious, Marie will be faced with the choice to stand firm or fall into the strong arms of a man she was destined to love.
